James W. Olsen, Esq.

James W. Olsen is the founding attorney.  His practice areas include Social Security Disability, Consumer and Commercial Bankruptcy, Collections, Trusts and Estates, Corporate Transactional and Formation documents, and General Civil Litigation. He graduated from Emory University with a B.A. in Sociology/Political Science in 2002. He received his J.D. from the University of Denver in 2005.   He passed the Colorado and New York bar exams and began to pursue his legal career.

Out of law school, James worked Title VII claims under the American Civil Rights Act of 1964.  Many of these cases took him to the Southern District of Manhattan Federal Court.  He worked for his father for a few years—semi-famous Colorado trial lawyer Jack Olsen—doing family law, criminal defense, employment, and personal injury claims.  Seeing a market need and opportunity, James expanded his practice into Colorado workers’ compensation law and national social security disability hearings.

Over the years, James has achieved the level of partner at a major Denver personal injury firm and expanded his practice into mass torts and bankruptcy.  A hallmark of his practice is a reliance on technology leverage, sustained effort in representing clients, and creative solutions to legal issues.

Accomplishments

While in law school, James won the Top Advocate Award in an EU/British law program. He also participated in the Rothgerber, Johnson, Lyons Negotiations Competition.  Over the past decade, he has presented on workers' compensation and SSDI topics at conferences and seminars.  He has consulted with lobbyists and lawyers' associations on workers' compensation legislation and issues in the State of Colorado.  He is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, a former Board Member of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, and has been a CTLA conference presenter.

He focuses on effective tactics, deal resolution, client management, excellent customer service, and tailoring the representation to the unique needs of each client.

Practice Areas and Experience

James currently maintains a busy case load in the State of New York, where he has been licensed since 2007 in the Southern District of New York Federal Court.  He has served as local litigation counsel in the Southern District of New York on multiple occasions.  He has defended both individuals and corporations in claims of breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and breach of personal guarantee.

Additionally, also in the State of New York, he has served as in-house counsel for a major judgment collections corporation.

In Corporate Transactional matters, he has represented a buyer in a multi-million-dollar asset purchase deal.

He is well-versed in the areas of insurance disputes, subrogation, and first-party insurance concepts.
